NIMA , a woman owned business , created by Sanae Aerts ,a Belgian-Moroccan natural dyer & fiber artist.
Since 2021 i live and work in the Atlas mountains , Marrakech.
This is where my natural dye studio is located and where all my creations are made, by hand.
I get my inspiration from the beautiful nature around me and most of the materials used, are found & gathered on my walks in the mountains.
Naturaly dyed and/or eco printed with leaves , bark , roots or flowers, i am able to transmit natures shapes, colors & textures on to organic fabrics.
While working together with local women in my village, i incorporate traditional textile techniques, such as Moroccan hand embroidery.
By combining these different techniques i create truly unique, adornments & home decoration.
What is eco printing or botanical printing?
It is almost the same as natural dyeing , but with eco printing , the color is transferred directly from the leaves, bark or flowers on to the fabric.
This dye technique takes very little water for the amount of fabric and is a great way for conserving resources.
Minimizing waste and working with natural fibers and dyes is one of the best ways to combat the immense pollution caused by the fashion and fiber industry
The social and ecological impact of naturally dyed goods, is a huge motivation for me as an artist, to create something in an eco-friendly way, using sustainable dyes ,derived from plants and natural resources.
